Tinikling Dance at the Holon, Israel Festival

How could I possibly forget to do a post on our national dance?

Here are two pictures of the Tinikling dance or the Bamboo dance as performed by the Jerusalem Dance Group at the embassy’s last cultural show, the Dance Festival – Holon Israel.

The Tinikling dance is comprised of four performers and two long bamboo poles. Two of them face each other holding both ends of the bamboo poles.

They then hit the poles on the blocks or thick wood on the floor, and then the poles are hit together. Such actions are done alternately in a repetitive manner to the rhythm of the fast Tinikling song, while the dancing pair does quick steps in and out of the poles very carefully - so as not to let their feet get hit by the poles.
